Araminta

We cover off the themes in the market, what’s causing moves and any upcoming announcements that we need to keep an eye on. It’s super important that we have an understanding of this because it could impact our day.

6.00 AM

I like to think I’m an early bird but I usually snooze my alarm at least three times before I finally roll out of bed to make brekkie and get ready for my day.

7.10 AM

Within the hour, I’m walking to the light rail to head into the city. You’ll find me listening to my favourite economics/global markets and news podcasts and keeping up to date with what happened overnight. I want to be ready to chat about any major moves to our clients and the team when I get in. Before I get started though, I need my caffeine hit for the day.

7.50 AM

Caffeinated and ready for my morning meeting. We cover off the themes in the market, what’s causing moves and any upcoming announcements that we need to keep an eye on. It’s super important that we have an understanding of this because it could impact our day.

8.30 AM

Ready to get stuck into it for the day. I’m working on some Foreign Exchange (FX) pricing for a client. I’ll usually model up a few scenarios so that the client can see the difference between prices, and make the most informed decision about which to go for. It’s exciting to take these insights to my clients. I know this is one of the reasons they value their relationship with my team and CommBank.

10.30 AM

After a couple of hours, we catch up as a team. We get exposure to what other projects and opportunities people are working on. We can also use this time to workshop insights to share with our clients. Of course, the casual banter is never forgotten. I love that we can chat about non-work stuff as well– balance!

After our meeting, I’ll spend the rest of the day working on a new piece of work our team is putting out about the AUD. I’ve also pencilled in some work towards the end of the week for an upcoming training session our team is running for the sales team. I’ll need to check that the materials we release are factually accurate and all of our modellings looks right.

12.15 PM

Lunchtime - one of the best parts of my day. I catch up with the other grads who are in the office for lunch. We generally step outside or get together in the kitchen. It’s a great chance for me to step away from the screens and just have a chat!

1.15 PM

Back to what I was working on before lunch. I’ve updated some of the graphs based on market themes over the last month. Some of the common topics we’re looking at currently include how the changes in the global macro environment are impacting the AUD. My role in this project is to complete the first draft, so I also schedule some time with my team to go over it and check that all of the insights I highlighted were correct.

3.30 PM

Time to chat with one of the FX dealers to learn about a possible client project that will require significant work by our team. After the call, we decide to put pens down on the project until we have more details. I’ll keep this project in the back of my mind as the market evolves to make it easier for me to create insights when we start working on it again.

4.00 PM

I start to tick off my daily checklist and reach out to the team to see if anything else needs to be done. The last hour of my day is always productive, closing off items before I head home.

6.00 PM

Ah, home time! Will I head out for a run or pilates tonight? Then a quick delicious home-cooked meal before getting ready for the next day.
