About the Role

The Department of Transport and Planning’s Winter Vacation Program is a fantastic opportunity for students studying at an Australian university to experience what it is like to work in an organisation that delivers a wide range of projects that profoundly impact connections across Victoria.

The Winter intake will allow you to gain some experience in the Government sector. As an Intern, you will get to work closely with a team within the public service. It will give you the opportunity to put a major employer on your resume and to gain some insight into the type of soft skills you will need for a successful career in your chosen field.

The duration of the placement is 1 month during July and covers the needs of the business unit which has requested the intern. Key Accountabilities will vary for each successful applicant. An example of the skills covered in a common experience is reflected below:

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop and maintain highly effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare communications for use in meetings and working groups
  • Engage in the creation and dissemination of key working documents
  • Set up calendar invitations and send out meeting invites
  • Perform research and analysis in support of operations, assist in resolving business issues using systems and data

 Personal Attributes

  • Good interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work collaboratively, develop networks and foster effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills including experience in preparing reports, maintaining intranet pages, undertaking data analysis, and engaging external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of projects or programs, including delivering timely and comprehensive project support and collaboration.
  • Demonstrated flexibility, adaptability, and responsiveness by taking a proactive approach to organisational demands and changes.
  • Detail-oriented with great organizational skills
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills

 The Winter intake will allow you to gain exposure to a fast-paced, collaborative office environment while working side by side with a group of highly experienced stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience

 Desirable

  • Be at least in your second year of an undergraduate or postgraduate degree.
  • To be eligible to work in Australia
  • To be currently studying a tertiary qualification in a related or relevant field.
