I really liked working with network essentials, where we had to log credentials and find out information about the company. Every day we would earn a badge if we attended the sessions.

What's your placement about?

My area of responsibility was helping to showcase career paths, network essentials, and group projects. It was great to be involved in group projects because it gave me an idea of how to work in a team and what it would be like in a real workplace. My area of responsibility was network admin, so configuring routers and connecting switches to check if they were IT connected or not. I really enjoyed this aspect because it was directly related to what I had learnt in my degree.

Each day differed, but we did many certificates to upskill our qualifications to better understand the IT processes within the organisation. I worked on one major group project where we had to connect multiple routers to fix the main issue.

What's your background?

I came to Australia in July 2019, before that I was living in India and going to school in India, and did my bachelor's degree in India and came to Australia to complete my master's. I chose Australia because It was flexible to live in, and it's comfortable compared to other countries like the US.

Could someone with a different background do your placement?

Yes, I believe they could.

Be open-minded, eager to learn and open to feedback from mentors. Also not to be afraid to ask questions because the companies know we are learning and they are willing to help if we show we are eager to learn.

What's the coolest thing about your placement?

The mentor was really helpful, very polite, whatever question we asked even if it was the same question he would be patient and help us anyway. I really liked working with network essentials, where we had to log credentials and find out information about the company. Every day we would earn a badge if we attended the sessions.
