Accelerated pay increases for beginning teachers

The NT's Rapid Incremental Progression of Salary scheme allows beginning teachers to apply to progress through the standard teacher salary increment levels faster. Under the scheme, a beginning teacher has the opportunity to move to the CT4 level at the start of their third year of teaching when they've done extra professional learning and/or study and they meet the eligibility criteria.

General employment conditions includes:

  • 6 weeks of annual leave
  • 6 weeks stand-down; and
  • 3 weeks paid personal (sick) leave per year.
  • Additional allowances for teachers in special schools and some pre-school positions

On commencement, we offer:

  • Two day departmental orientation
  • Induction at the school
  • Ongoing professional development
  • Mentor

To be eligible to apply as a teacher in the Northern Territory (NT) you need to:

  • be a qualified classroom teacher
  • have successfully completed the National Literacy and Numeracy Test (for graduates who completed their initial teacher education (ITE) course at an Australian university after 1 July 2016).

Upon commencement of employment, you will be required to hold current:

  • NT teacher registration
  • NT working with children clearance (Ochre card)

The commencing salary for graduate teachers is $77,047 (excluding superannuation).
