Help us connect Australia to a renewable energy future

At the heart of the national electricity market, our high voltage transmission network connects consumers across NSW and the ACT to safe and reliable electricity. They take a leading role in encouraging the connection of renewable generation and, more broadly, the transition to a low carbon future.

Transgrid offers fulfilling careers where every person is encouraged to take advantage of ongoing opportunities to develop their skills. Our people come from a broad range of backgrounds that reflect the communities they serve and bring different perspectives to different challenges. Together they play a critical role in our continued success.

Our two-year Graduate Program is designed to help you bridge the gap between formal education and the workplace. Our graduates are offered a unique opportunity to learn from leading experts and develop professional skills that will help get your career off to a flying start.

As a Transgrid Graduate, you will undertake four rotations in key business areas with access to internal and external development opportunities to enhance your professional knowledge and skills.

Depending on your background and career aspirations, Transgrid offers a number of streams:

  • Engineering
  • Construction and Project Management
  • IT and Cyber
  • Marketing and Communications
  • Strategy and Transformation
  • Legal, Governance and Risk

Recruitment Process

Step 1:  Create a profile on our careers site and submit your application

Make sure you include your:

  • Cover Letter
  • Resume

Step 2:  Screening process

Transgrid will review each application form, cover letter and resume thoroughly, and consider a variety of aspects such as academic achievements, relevant work experience, extracurricular activities or volunteer work.

Step 3:  Online testing, video interview and assessment

Once Transgrid narrows down the selection of applicants, Transgrid will invite you to complete online testing.

If you are successfully shortlisted following online testing, you will be invited to complete a video interview.

Transgrid will further review candidates upon completion of the video interview.

If you are selected at this stage, you will be invited to attend an assessment centre, depending on your location.

At this point, it’s a good idea to start thinking about:

  • The reasons why you want to join Transgrid
  • Which sector or business unit/stream you’re most interested in and think you’re most suited to
  • Any work experience or previous study you’ve done that is relevant to that sector

Step 4:  Pre-employment checks

If you are successful at the assessment centre, Transgrid may invite you to undergo pre-employment checks. These will include reference checks, academic checks and police checks.

Please note this stage does not mean you have been successful – but it does mean you are one step closer!

Step 5:  Offer of employment

If you are successful – congratulations!

You will receive a telephone call from one of our recruitment advisors, who will talk you through everything you need to know about joining Transgrid. You will then receive all relevant documentation including a letter of offer and contract via email.

To be eligible for the Transgrid Graduate Program you must have:

  • Australian permanent residency or Australian or New Zealand citizenship

What Graduates Say About Them
  • The kindness of my fellow employees is something that blew me away when I first began, and it's something I continue to take pride in. Everyone genuinely cares about you on a personal level, there are many amazing perks including fortnightly rostered days off, and there is no pressure to take on more than what you can handle.
  • The best thing about working at Transgrid as a graduate is all the workshops and training I get to attend and learn, Transgrid invests a lot in my self-development and career development
  • Hybrid mode of working, respect and friendliness amongst team members thanks to the manager's facilitation, and meaningful participation (being supported and later trusted with important responsibilities and system-access privileges).
  • Transgrid has a strong culture of value for each employee. They really consider the personal goals/ambitions of the employee and work on any projects or opportunities around employee values. Everyone acts as ONE business and goes out of their way to lend a hand to those who ask, regardless of business department or position. Communication here is quite easy and everyone's voice is heard; you need to speak up.
  • Transgrid is invested in me. Excellent development opportunities, good pay and benefits, work-life balance.
  • The opportunity to work on large projects which will have an impact on the future.
  • Really love working at Transgrid, the only bad thing I can think of is when your team gives you work that puts you on the sidelines (but this is on rare occasions and depends on your team).
  • The only thing I can say for me would be the travel time.
  • Tech support, some uncertainty/lack of notice for grad rotations.
  • Being in such a big company, its hard to get access to resources as you need them and can add a lot of time and friction to getting some tasks done.
  • Sometimes the feeling of disconnect between teams.
  • Some rotations you may work on less interesting projects. This doesn't mean the projects are less important.
