Take your place at the heart of New Zealand's power system.  Kick start your professional career with Aotearoa's Transmission Grid Owner and Operator!

Transpower owns and operates New Zealand's National Grid - the unique high voltage transmission network crossing mountain passes, forests, farmland and open sea, bringing electricity from where it is generated to where it is needed most.

With a whole-of-industry view of the electricity sector, we're at the forefront of the electrification and expansion of infrastructure New Zealand needs for a zero-carbon future.

About the Opportunity

From day one you will be provided with real work and support from a collaborative professional and knowledgeable team to gain an introductory level understanding of Transpower's role now, as well as where it is going to in the future.

Support, coaching and mentoring will be provided by our super approachable Organisational Development team, second year Summer Interns, and a buddy from our Young Professionals community to enable you to quickly feel comfortable and proactively build relationships beyond your placement.

Our Summer Internship programme gives you a fantastic opportunity to experience Transpower whilst gaining some of the engineering hours required to graduate.

Summer Interns are key to ensuring we have a pipeline of collaborative potential gradate engineers with the work experience, skills, and behaviours to succeed in graduate roles throughout the business post successful study completion.

We love seeing our interns thrive and come back to us as Graduates!

What you will bring

  • You'll have well developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Be working towards a bachelor or master's degree in a relevant discipline, with a minimum grade point average (GPA) above 5
  • You must be studying at a New Zealand university and hold full eligibility to work

At a conversational interview, we'll be looking for critical thinking and curiosity, the ability to work well with others, and a basic knowledge of the New Zealand electricity supply industry along with keen interest in where our exciting sector is going!

Join us at Transpower

Aotearoa is powered by the people who work here. Every home, every marae, every electric vehicle, every hospital relies on the electricity we manage and deliver. This is your opportunity to join us on a mission that affects all New Zealanders, every day and long into the future.

With over 28 nationalities, our people provide diverse perspectives, knowledge, and deep and varied experience which they love to share.
