Interview was a standard graduate centre with some written components. Is ran well and is not overly intensive.

Very detailed process that gave us a good opportunity to showcase our skills, collaboration and problem solving - particularly in small groups

The interview process is intense. After the application process I had to complete various online psychometric testing and participate in an assessment centre which consisted of a group activity, written/verbal task, and interview.
Graduate, Sydney
The written assessment component was a good challenge, the topic I had was relevant to what has happening at the time. The online assessment was standard just like any other assessment in other graduate hiring process. The interview process was standard just like any other interview.

The interview process and assessments were well run and the preparation advice given was appropriate. I enjoyed the process and it made me excited by the prospect of working at Defence.

What questions were you asked in your interviews?
Do you have any specific tips and advice for candidates applying to your company? How would you recommend they best prepare?
Read up on the criteria, and not be overly nervous if you are coming in with little professional experience. I did volunteering and a couple of uni internships which was enough.

Ask yourself why you are wanting to apply for the role and write down exactly what that is. What do you want to get out of the hire? Is it aligned with a future career or learning opportunities? Do these opportunities foster growth? Is this an industry I'm interested in?
Graduate, Adelaide
Research the Defence website, Defence Strategic Update and Defence White Paper. Will be useful for the assessment centre.
Graduate, Sydney
Be confident in yourself, be patient with the process and immerse yourself in the interview process.

The APS and Defence recruitment websites contain plenty of information on what they look for in candidates, and how to answer questions asked in the various rounds of selection.
Graduate, Sydney
Research Defence, particularly its values and its place within the broader APS. Think about how you can demonstrate these within your personal and professional experiences.
Graduate, Canberra
Be prepared to receive very little communication, however do they work you're asked to do, even if it seems irrelevant. Persistence and patience are the main skills you will need.
Graduate, Adelaide
Focus on what they want and tailor your responses to that, using the STAR method. Don't forget to ask what they can give you, and show your enthusiasm.
Graduate, Canberra
Find as many real life examples that display the positive qualities you bring to a workplace. Use these examples to answer as many questions as possible. The more you answer interview questions using real life examples to strengthen your point the better.

Be accommodating and remember STAR. If you want to go the extra mile, use STARL, L being lessons learnt
